1-Year-Old Boy Fighting For Their Life After Being Struck By Car In East Mount Airy, Police Say

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A 1-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being struck by a car, police say. It happened shortly after 7 p.m. around East Johnson Street and Belfield Avenue in East Mount Air Saturday.

Neighbors told CBS3 that they saw the boy running up and down Belfield Avenue near East Johnson Street for much of Sunday evening with little supervision before he was struck by a car.

"That baby got hit. He 1 years old, little boy. That's all I can do is start praying, talking to my father because listen, this is serious. The way it looked like, the baby was out of it," Kia Bailey, a neighbor said.

The boy was rushed to Einstein Medical Center in critical condition.

"It's terrible. We don't want nothing like that to happen to kids," Chris Coobs, a neighbor, said. We want to protect them."

Investigators say the driver of the car stopped and remained on the scene until police arrived.

There is no word if the driver will face any citations.

Police are still investigating how the 1-year-old boy ended up in the middle of the street.

CBS3's Matt Petrillo contributed to this report.
