PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Police are looking for the man who stole $120,000 worth of jewelry from a Macy’s in Northeast Philadelphia on Tuesday night. The theft happened around 8:40 p.m. at the Macy’s on Cottman Avenue.

Police say a man wearing a gray hoodie was hanging around the jewelry section before jumping the counter and popping the case open.

The suspect used a pry bar he was hiding in his hoodie to do it. Police say minimal force was used to pry open the display case.

The suspect then stole six diamond rings worth around $20,000 each.

“To jump over the counter and use a pry bar — no one confronted him for safety reasons — but obviously this is really brazen,” said Philadelphia Police Lt. Dennis Rosenbaum.

Shoppers are questioning how the man was able to steal several diamonds and wonder if it was an inside job.

“They were obviously paying attention if they knew exactly when to do it and how to do it, and knew this would be the perfect time,” said Lisa Pabon, of Northeast Philadelphia. “It kind of raises an eyebrow, and it’s just scary.”

Police, however, have not said that.

Police are reviewing store surveillance video to find the suspect.
