PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Experts are raising concerns about cardboard baby boxes being promoted as good sleeping spaces for infants.
In Finland, cardboard baby boxes have routinely been given to every expectant mother since the 1930s and boxes are now being given out free to new mothers in some parts of the UK.
UK researchers say there's no evidence that they are safe or reduce sudden infant death syndrome or SIDS.
They say additional studies are needed to make that determination.
Experts also say some of the boxes come with lids, which are potentially flammable, and if placed on a floor are susceptible to low-level draughts, domestic pets, and young siblings.
