Best Upcoming Pet Adoption Events In Philadelphia

If you are looking for a new furry family member and are tired of messing around you may want to consider an adoption event. Adoption Events are run by shelters, or rescues and even the charity extensions of huge pet stores. In these events there are huge discounts and there are many animals available for your immediate adoption. Sometimes it can take months to adopt a pet in the traditional method so this is good when you are done waiting and know what you are looking for. Adoption events are traditionally dogs and cats. Here are the top 5 adoption events in the Philly area.

Date: December 16 and 17, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The  Brandywine SPCA hosts a Mega Adoption event the weekend of December 16-17, 2017. The event begins at 10am and continues until Sunday night. 6pm. 1000's of prescreened animals (vaccinated, sterilized, chipped) are available to find new homes.  Prices for this event are dramatically slashed. ($20 for any animal). Typically at the SPCA the prices vary  Cats are less expensive, from $60 for cats over the age of 6 months, and $120 for kittens. Dogs are between $150-$500 with puppies in the $400-$500 range. Price depends on size of dog and age. SPCA is a now a no-kill shelter.  This event follows Cat Herders Day on the 15th, coincidence?

Date: December 2, 2017 from 12 to 4 p.m.

Petco maybe were the pets go, and where their masters shop for them, it is also a place to adopt a new furry buddy. Petco runs adoption events on occasion. This year they are holding a few in early December in time for the holiday season. For New Jerseyans or for those who wish to cross the Walt Whitman bridge into New Jersey you can hit this Petco event. Petco stores in South NJ works in association with the Animal Welfare association.

Date: December 2 to 3, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Petco Stores in Philadelphia are also offering a convenient adoption event for the holiday season. The "All for Holiday Homes Adoption Event"  is being held at most (but not all) Petco and Petco Unleashed stores. There are 3 stores in Philly, the 2  who are participating (Callowhill and Girard) are listed above. Petco also offers training classes, pet grooming and have been selling supplies for over 50 years.

Rescue Run

Later in the year (date is TBA) is the 6th annual Rescue Run which raises funds for Monster Milers a dog rescue which specifically saves dogs from the city shelter. Runners gather in the Navy yard and race for their love of dogs. Rescue groups and Adoption centers attend with furry new friends who are available for adoption. Previous attenders include organizations such as Street Tails Animal Rescue (STAR) and Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society (PAWS). You can support this organization by running, or volunteering if you can't take in anymore pets.

PetSmart has ongoing adoptions. They always have cats from a local animal shelter available for adoption. The prices range and change (typically from $25-$100). Most stores also have dogs available for adoption at least one day of most weekends. However four times a year they hold a National Adoption weekend which yields the adoptions of 15,000 pets. These events occur at every store in the US and Canada and the next will occur in February 2018 (date TBA).
