UPPER DARBY, Pa. (CBS) — A Delaware County doctor is under arrest after he is accused of assaulting his patients.
Police say at least two women went running out of the doctor’s office when 89-year-old Dr. Brij Srivastava allegedly fondled them during their physicals.
Authorities are now concerned more patients may have had inappropriate exams and want those patients to come forward.
The 89-year-old doctor is facing charges of indecent assault as he is accused of fondling female patients during routine physical examinations.
The first patient came forward in July.
“He takes her into a room by himself, and according to the complainant, he puts his hand under her blouse and starts rubbing her breasts,” said Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood. “Then he tried to take his hand and stick it up underneath her bra.”
Police say at that moment in the Upper Darby Long Lane Medical Center, the woman feared this wasn’t a normal physical exam. She pushed the doctor off of her, ran out and called 911.
Authorities didn’t have enough to arrest Srivastava until Nov. 1, when a second patient came forward.
“Same type of thing, she goes into an examining room,” said Chitwood.
The doctor allegedly also fondled the second woman’s breasts, but, according to Chitwood, the doctor whispered in her ear that he liked this.
Rowena Faulk, another patient, was upset outside the doctor’s office after finding out what he’s accused of.
“Every time I came back, I was like, ‘Why does he always rub my legs?’” said Faulk.
She added, “I was always uncomfortable, but I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it.”
Srivastava’s office was closed all day.
He’s out on bail and is free to continue practicing, because these are only charges.
Srivastava has privileges with several hospitals and medical centers in the area.
