Police: Man Gunned Down In Front Of 2-Year-Old Daughter In Philly

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — A man was shot and killed in Philadelphia on Thursday night in front of his 2-year-old daughter, according to the Philadelphia Police Department.

It happened at 7:27 p.m. in the 1500 block of  Melon Street in the Spring Garden section of the city.

Witnesses told police that a 38-year-old man was getting out of his car when he was approached by two men.

Police say his wallet was taken, but for some unknown reason, the suspects fired two shots, striking the man at least one time in the face. The wallet was later recovered nearby.

Police say the victim's 2-year-old daughter and the family dog were inside the vehicle when the shooting occurred.  The girl has been reunited with her mother.

The man was transported to Hahnemann Hospital where he later died.

Authorities identified the victim as Gerard Grandzol. Police say Grandzol leaves behind a wife, 2-year-old daughter and newborn baby.

The suspects are believed to be in their late teens or early 20s. The men are described as wearing dark shirts or hooded sweatshirts, one is wearing tan, possibly khaki pants. Police say they were last seen running west on Melon St.
