Police: Public Works Employee Dies After Being Struck By Car

FRANCONIA TOWNSHIP, Pa. (CBS) — A Montgomery County public works employee has died after he was struck by a car on Tuesday afternoon, according to the Franconia Township Police Department.

The incident happened at 2:42 p.m. in the 300 block of West Broad Street in Franconia Township.

Police Searching For Medical Van Stolen In Delaware County

Franconia Township Highway Department said��David Smith, 53, of Telford died. Jeffrey Moyer, 46, also of Telford, remains in critical condition at Temple University.

The Franconia Township Board Of Supervisors Chairman Grey Godshall released the following statement on the accident:

Franconia Township is mourning the loss of one of our dedicated Public Works employees. He was struck by a car yesterday afternoon while painting traffic lines in front of the West Broad Street Elementary School.

Our thoughts and prayers are with our co-worker's family, friends and colleagues at the Township.

We are also praying for another of our dedicated employees who was seriously injured in the same incident. He is now being treated at Temple University Hospital.

Our thoughts go out to his family, friends and colleagues at the Township. We are praying for his recovery.

Franconia is a tight-knit community and staff at the Township is like family. When a member of our community is lost or injured, we all grieve. We are doing all that we can to assist the families of our co-workers.

We appreciate the support we have received from our community and from municipalities across Montgomery County. The prayers and well-wishes mean a great deal. We ask that everyone continue to keep our co-workers, their families and friends in their thoughts.

Our Police Department is working with the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office. We will coordinate the release of additional information with the county.

The striking car remained on the scene after the accident.

The crash is under investigation by the Montgomery County Detective Bureau.
