Police Offer $5,000 To 'Push Out' Drugs In Bucks County

BUCKS COUNTY, Pa. (CBS)—  A Bucks County State Rep and the County's District Attorney announced a new program Thursday that asks residents to join the fight against heroin, and also offers up a $5,000-reward for tips that lead to a conviction.

The "Push Out the Pushers" program asks residents to call a tip-line to turn in heroin dealers in the county.

State Rep John Galloway says getting residents involved is the best way to curb a growing crisis.

"They understood what was happening, they were concerned, they didn't like what was happening, but there wasn't anything they could do about it," he said. "What we came to the conclusion was if we can mobilize the public, we could create a great army. And that's what we're going to need in the war against heroin."

Galloway says rewards will be given for any tip that leads to a conviction, and the reward money is all from private sources.

In the first 24-hours of the program, Galloway says over 500 people have called asking for yard signs and more than 30 tips have been called in to the county's District Attorney's office.

"Your identity will not be revealed; it's safe to call…YOU can make  a difference!" authorities say.
