Body Of Missing Teen Swimmer Recovered In Hamilton Township

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (CBS) -- Crews confirm they have recovered the body of a teenage swimmer who got swept away in the water in Hamilton Township.

The 17-year-old boy was swept away while swimming in Rowan Lake at Roebling County Park Wednesday with three other teens.

Police have identified the teen as Marty Barchue of Hamilton Township.

"Our entire community sends our sympathies and our prayers to the family, friends and fellow classmates who are grieving during this painful moment from a life that we lost far too early," Hamilton Township Mayor Kelly Yaede said in a statement.

Search For NJ Teen Swimmer To Resume As Recovery Effort

A friend of the victim says the current pulled them apart.

An autopsy will be performed on the teen by the Middlesex County Medical Examiner's Office.

Marty was a student at Hamilton West High School.

"Marty was an outgoing student who always had a smile on his face and a kind word to say. His sense of humor and contagious laugh will truly be missed by all who knew him," Hamilton Township School District Superintendent Scott Rocco said in a statement.
