Coatesville Police Investigate String Of Church Burglaries

COATESVILLE, Pa. (CBS) -- Authorities in Coatesville are looking for the person or people responsible for breaking into five churches in a little less than two weeks.

Detectives tell Eyewitness News the latest victim is the Holy Ghost Ukrainian Church. The thief or thieves took $5400 in cash early Monday morning.

"It's a disgrace. It's a shame," Coatesville Police Corporal Paul Antonucci told Eyewitness News. Antonucci says the burglaries at the five churches occurred late evening or early morning.

"It just goes against everything I stand for as a person," he added.

Nicole Mainwaring moved to Coatesville a year ago and says the news is troubling.

"It's really the lowest of the low if you steal from a church," Mainwaring said.

Authorities do not have surveillance video or suspects. They hope to solve the mystery with the help of the public.

"Were going to be at every church we have multiple times a night as much as we can," Antonucci said.

Authorities believe the crimes are connected. If you have any information, call Coatesville Police at 610-384-2300.
