From The Classroom To The Farm For Students At Delaware Valley University

DOYLESTOWN (CBS) -- It's farm to table on the university level for some local students.

Students at Delaware Valley University in Doylestown have found learning, delicious. They're growing the food and livestock, which ends up on the meal plan according to Scott Smith, the General Farm Manager. He said the chefs are given the bounty, of whatever is picked that week.

"Winter squash and our greenhouse products such as hydroponic lettuce or hydroponic tomatoes and cucumbers, other products that go up start out in the form of livestock, so whether its beef or swine and they end up as hamburger patties or sausage in the dining hall," he said.

He said students also learn how to market the food that doesn't end up on their table.
