Sixers Make Big Assist Off Basketball Court

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia 76ers teamed up with some men and women in uniform Tuesday night to help the less fortunate.

Folks from the Sixers organization, a few of their players, some active duty airmen and volunteers from Toyota, gathered at Northeast Frankford Boys & Girls Club to package 50,000 meals for Philabundance.

"I hope everybody in the city of Philadelphia says 'can I do a little bit more to make somebody a little less fortunate a little better off,'" said 76ers CEO Scott O'Neil.

Sixers point guard Sergio Rodriguez says he's only been in town for a little while, but he's gotten a lot of love and he's happy to give it back.

"This is great, to be here and helping the people who have less," Rodriguez said.

Lieutenant colonel George Peasant says his men jumped at the opportunity to help those in need.

"It's great. We like to give back. We have a lot of support from the community here," he said. "A lot of people support the military, so it'a great opportunity for us to give back as well."

A portion of the meals packaged will go to families of Northeast Frankford Boys & Girls Club as they get ready for the holiday season.
