Knee-Jerk Reactions: Hard To Blame Carson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- If you told me the Eagles would lose 26-15 in Week 11 at Seattle, I would probably say, "That sounds about right."

So it wasn't the end result that was as frustrating and disappointing, as how the loss came to fruition.

  • Carson Wentz (23-45, 218 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INTs) is struggling.
  • But it's nearly impossible for me to crush a rookie quarterback, playing at Seattle, with virtually no offensive weapons.
  • When Ryan Mathews (knee) and Darren Sproles (ribs) go out for the game, and Jordan Matthews is seeing a lot of Richard Sherman -- that spells disaster for an already limited offense.
  • Matthews did manage 5-59 on 10 targets, and of course found a way to hit his one egregious drop per game quota.
  • Nelson Agholor failing to line up on the line of scrimmage ("he's lining up offsides!"), negating a 57-yard Zach Ertz touchdown catch and a 14-13 late second quarter Eagles' lead, pretty much sums up Agholor's season.

  • But if that doesn't -- on the Eagles' next drive -- Agholor was wide open over the middle of the field and dropped the ball. His only target.
  • At one point in the third quarter, Russell Wilson had as many receiving yards as the Eagles' wide receivers.
  • Wendell Smallwood played decent (13 carries for 48 yards, 4 catches for 31 yards), but it obviously wasn't enough.
  • On the o-line, Jason Peters and Big V both suffered injuries, but Peters returned to the game and seems to be OK.
  • As a whole, the o-line continues to play well though, as Jason Kelce was PFF's highest graded Eagles offensive player.
  • The Eagles' defense got Russell Wilson-ed, as most defenses do.
  • Seattle totaled 439 yards of offense, 291 of them from Wilson (272 passing, 19 rushing).
  • Jalen Mills had a pretty brutal game, but he keeps waving his finger. So that's good.
  • Rodney McLeod was out of position on a Jimmy Graham touchdown catch and only recorded three combined tackles.
  • Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham created some pressure, each had a QB hit, but the Eagles finished the game with just one sack.
  • Overall the Eagles now sit at 5-5 and with the rest of the division winning, you can officially kiss the NFC East goodbye.
  • With six games left, the Eagles have GB at home on Monday night, at Cincinnati, and at Baltimore in Week 15 mixed in with three division home games. They'll have to go at least 4-2, possibly 5-1, to have a shot at a Wildcard berth.
