Did Sixers Make Correct Decision Benching Embiid At Home?

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Philadelphia 76ers have continued to ask fans to Trust The Process.

After a day off on Tuesday, the Sixers decided to rest Joel Embiid at home vs. the Washington Wizards. Instead, he will play on Thursday night against Karl-Anthony Towns and a 3-7 ascending Minnesota Timberwolves teams at 8pm on TNT.

"I ask question, after question, after question," Brett Brown told reporters when asked about the decision to rest Embiid during the front-end of the back-to-back at home.

"It's my job to. And my real job is to look at Joel responsibly and not selfishly, because we all see the difference Joel Embiid makes while he's in the game. And so that information is delivered to me. We all talk about it and challenge it and ask why, but at the end of the day it is delivered in a very thoughtful, sort of responsible manner."

Angelo Cataldi and the 94WIP Morning Show was upset with the team's decision to sit Embiid at home -- despite their 109-102 win over the Wizards -- and feels general manager Bryan Colangelo and/or owner Joshua Harris needs to address the situation.

"This is a home crowd," Cataldi explained at the beginning of his Thursday morning show. "This is a city that has endured three years of atrocious basketball. This a team that finally was given a little something to get excited about-- well he's not little, he's 7-2 -- Joel Embiid. They finally get something you want to buy a ticket to see.

"And you bought a ticket to see it and then they decided on the day of the game, that you are not going to get what you paid for. That's exactly what they did. And they did it in a completely arbitrary, B.S. way."

Plenty of fans weighed in on Twitter and on 94WIP, and there was mixed reaction.

The 94WIP Morning Show asked St. Joe's basketball coach Phil Martelli about the importance of honest with the fan base.

"Without a fan, without the support, then there's really no program," Martelli said on the 94WIP Morning Show. "If there's no interest in our own city, or in our own alumni base, or our Philadelphia basketball fan, then what's so secretive?

Sixers beat writer Bob Cooney also addressed the situation on Thursday morning.

"I just don't get any of this," Cooney said. "I don't get it. I haven't gotten it for years. I don't get it now. What is going on?"
