Conservative Think Tank Expects Obamacare Repeal On Inauguration Day

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Jim DeMint, the President of the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank based in Washington DC, expressed his belief, in an interview with Dom Giordano on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, that Donald Trump will repeal the Affordable Care Act immediately after taking the oath of office on January 20, in addition to fulfilling a few other campaign promises.

"Our hope is the day that he's inaugurated, he can sign the repeal bill. Congress is sworn in the first week of January, he is inaugurated the last week, so Congress has two or three weeks. Send a bill through the House and the Senate, which they did last year. It just was a trial run to show that if you had the right President, they would repeal it. They've got the legislation. So, that is our hope and that's what we're working with the hill on is that, hey, when he is inaugurated, he should be able to say, 'I'm signing the repeal of Obamacare today, I'm also ordering the funding of the fence, which is already in law and here's my first Supreme Court nomination.'"

DeMint stated he has already made clear his demand to the incoming Administration and Congress that the Obamacare law be repealed without any attempt to adjust or improve it.

"I've told Trump and I've talked with Paul Ryan and all of us know this, you have to repeal it first. There are aspects of the current law that you want to put into a replacement bill, then you do that. But, if you try to fix what we've got, rather than repeal it, you're building on a shifting sand, it a sense that it's a command and control model."
