Wolf Signs Uber/Lyft Ride Sharing Authorization Bill

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- Governor Wolf has now signed legislation giving permanent authorization to Uber, Lyft and other ride sharing services across Pennsylvania.

Months of sometimes difficult negotiations finally produced a bill giving statewide authorization to ride share services that Governor Wolf signed Friday.

"Finally, a long term solution that will allow ride sharing companies like Uber, like Lyft to operate everywhere in Pennsylvania. This bill puts an end to any question about these companies operating in our commonwealth and especially ends questions about their operations in Philadelphia."

The governor says the new law allows Uber, Lyft and other ride sharing companies to become full partners in the communities where they operate, while protecting consumers with thorough background checks for drivers. Two thirds of the tax revenue from rides in Philadelphia will go to city schools.
