West Chester Hosts Cheyney For Homecoming

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It will be Homecoming for Division II West Chester University on Saturday as the Golden Rams entertain Cheyney University.

West Chester is 4-3 on the season (3-1 in the PSAC East) after picking up a second straight impressive win. The Golden Rams followed up a victory over Shippensburg two weeks ago with a 27-7 win at Bloomsburg this past Saturday. West Chester has outscored its opponents 58-22 the last two weeks.

"This was the type of team I thought we were going to be," West Chester head coach Bill Zwaan tells KYW Newsradio. "The turnovers and penalties were killing us leading up to these last two games. We've kind of controlled the turnovers for sure and that has really changed us as a team. But this is what I thought we would be like."

Listen to the entire interview with West Chester's Bill Zwaan:

West Chester had all precincts reporting in the win over Bloomsburg. They held the Huskies to just 246 yards of total offense and Bloomsburg's only touchdown came with just sixteen seconds remaining. On offense, the Golden Rams rolled up 433 yards. Junior running back Jarel Elder ran for two scores and junior quarterback Pat Moriarty was 11 of 18 for 197 yards and a touchdown.

This coming Saturday, the Golden Rams will face a Cheyney team that has really struggled. The Wolves are 1-6 and they have lost six-straight after a season-opening win over Lincoln. Last week, the Wolves were throttled by Shippensburg, 76-0.

"Our approach is that we want to keep getting better and keep working hard from our end," Zwaan says. "We understand that they are struggling a little bit, and it's our homecoming game, so we want to put on a good performance for our homecoming people. But really, it's our job to keep getting better."

Last year, West Chester beat Cheyney, 41-20.

Saturday's game will kickoff at 2:00pm.
