Villanova Hosts Rhode Island Saturday

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Villanova Wildcats will try to extend their winning streak to five straight games and stay perfect in Colonial Athletic Association action on Saturday when they welcome Rhode Island to the Main Line.

Villanova improved to 4-1 (2-0 in the CAA) this past Saturday with an absolute dismantling of the Elon Phoenix down in North Carolina, 42-7.

"I was really happy that we were able to play as well as we did across the board," Villanova head coach Andy Talley tells KYW Newsradio. "Terrific offense, terrific defense, special teams were good. When you put that together, the other team really didn't have a chance. We played as well as we can play."

Listen to the entire interview with Villanova head coach Andy Talley:

A Villanova defense that has been great all season long, may have been at its best against Elon. The Wildcats allowed just 130 yards of offense and six first downs. More than half the yards Villanova allowed came on the one Phoenix scoring drive which occurred late in the fourth quarter with the game long decided.

"We're really pleased with the way our defense is growing right now," Talley says.

Villanova takes on a Rhode Island team on Saturday that is 1-4. After four straight losses to start the season, the Rams finally tasted victory last week with a 28-13 victory over Brown out of the Ivy League.

"If you take a look at who they've lost to, Harvard's undefeated, Albany is undefeated, they played Kansas (of FBS) at Kansas," Talley says. "They've had a really rough schedule. So even though they are 1-4, they are a tough, hard-nosed football team, they're not worried about Villanova."

Last year, Villanova beat Rhode Island on the road, 24-3.

Saturday's game gets underway at noon.
