No Cell Phones! Gilmore Girls Fans In Philly Enjoy Coffee At 'Luke's Diner'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Fans of the hit series "Gilmore Girls" are counting down the days until its reboot next month on Netflix.

To help celebrate, pop-up cafes inspired by the show appeared throughout the country Wednesday morning, including three in the Philadelphia area.

Lines of people outside HubBub Coffee on Arch Street in Center City stretched down the block.

"This is unlike anything I've ever seen," says Lori Aparentado, an employee there since the day it opened.

For one morning only, the shop transformed into Luke's Diner - Lorelai, Rory and the rest of the gang's favorite hangout.

"We got a Luke's Diner sign," explains Aparentado, we've got a giant cardboard cutout of Luke with his rules. A 'No Cell Phone' sign. Our baristas are wearing Luke's uniforms, and Luke's cups with a surprise underneath the sleeve."

That surprise being some popular quotes from the show. The first 150 cups were free.

Laura Villeneuve had to wait awhile to enjoy her brew, but...

"I think it was definitely worth the wait," she says. "We waited in line for like an hour and a half, but it's cool to see a fictional thing come to life."

Marquis Combs says the 'No Cell Phone' sign was the most realistic item as it relates to the show. He also got a kick out of the Luke cardboard cutout. Luke's list of rules included 'No Man Buns."

"It's 2016," Combs says, "I guess Luke would hate man buns, it's totally a part of his character."

Combs adds he doesn't even like coffee, he just needed a Gilmore Girls fix:

"It doesn't look like Luke's, but it definitely feels like Luke's. It's the thought that counts and I really do like it."

Other Luke's Diners popped up at HubBub shops in West Philadelphia and Radnor.
