PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Philadelphia police are investigating a fatal auto-pedestrian accident that happened early Sunday morning in the Rhawnhurst section of the city.

Police say 51-year-old Nilton Monteir of Mayfair was walking across Castor Avenue near Cottman around 1:30 a.m. when he was struck by a Chevy Impala traveling north on Castor. The car then fled the scene but was found abandoned two blocks away at Shelmore and Horrocks.

The victim was rushed to Aria Torresdale Hospital where he died a few hours later.
