Volunteers To 'Rock The Block' In Norristown

NORRISTOWN (CBS) - Hundreds of volunteers are descending on Norristown Saturday morning, all part of Habitat for Humanity's "Rock the Block".

Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County's Marianne Lynch says 250 volunteers are taking part in the third annual event:

"Doing some painting, some clean-up, some yardwork, just a general feel good day."

She says volunteers come from area businesses, colleges and other organizations:

"Quite a few people from the community, but a lot of the people who live in Norristown are going to be participating on that day as well."

Lynch says a few years ago they expanded from their core building program, into neighborhood revitalization:

"We believe pretty strongly that in order to people to thrive in their homes their neighborhoods also have to be safe, resilient, wonderful places to live."

She says they focus on Norristown in the fall, and have a similar program in Pottstown in the spring.
