Man Sentenced To Decades In Prison In Rape Of 6-Year-Old Girl During Break-In

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) —The 29-year-old man convicted of climbing into an apartment window in Hatfield and raping a six-year-old girl in her bed will spend decades in state prison.

Oscar Herrera will spend 24-70 years in prison.

It took a jury only an hour to find him guilty of breaking into a Hatfield apartment in the middle of night last November, climbing into a 6-year-old girl's bunk bed and raping her.

Montgomery Judge Steven O'Neill told Herrera, in his 14 years on the bench, he's never seen a more egregious crime.

Prosecutor Stew Ryan agrees, saying Herrera violated the girl in what should have been the safest place she could be.

"A little girl had to suffer her worst nightmare, in her bed while she slept at night, somewhere inside her home where she should feel most secure."

The little girl's brother testified he saw the man in her bed. He got his parents and the father held Herrera until police arrived.

Herrera is in the country illegally. His immigration issues will be dealt with once he serves his sentence in state prison.
