Ribbon Cut On New Cafeteria At Covenant House

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- An organization that provides emergency housing and other services to youth in need has a new cafeteria thanks to a family owned and operated supermarket chain.

The ribbon was cut for the Brown's Family Cafe inside Covenant House PA's Germantown facility.

Chicken was sizzling on the grill in the new kitchen and tables were set up in an adjoining eating room.

The cafeteria is named after partnering sponsor Brown's Super Stores, operating 11 ShopRites in the region. Sandy Brown is the director of the company.

"They didn't have the proper equipment, Brown said. "Things were 20, 30 years old, so we came in so, and with our partners we were able to outfit them with all kids of equipment, refrigerator, dishwasher, bain-marie."

Executive Director of Covenant House John Ducoff says the warm welcoming space sends a message to the disadvantaged youth.

"They are not alone and that we are here and we care and we believe in them," Ducoff said.
