PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Designed to help with entrepreneurship and creativity, a conference for women is making a return trip to Philadelphia after its successful debut last year.

The Fearless Conference is a two-day event hosted at WeWork in Northern Liberties, October 1st and 2nd. It was created by Melissa Alam, the founder of the digital platform Femme and Fortune.

“I felt like there wasn’t something I could relate to as a minority female here in the city,” Alam said. “I wanted to create a platform for woman like me to connect with.”

With a focus on female empowerment, the conference gathers creative and motivated women together in Philadelphia to spark new conversations and collaborations.

“I kind of wanted to mashup the different conferences I’ve been to into a platform for woman,” said Alam.

Now in its second year, the conference will include interactive workshops with local business leaders, panels, and inspirational keynotes.

“We have some awesome keynotes, we have Amanda Stineberg, who created WorthFM as well as, and then I’ll also be doing a live Q&A session with the founders of LOLA, which is this awesome tampon subscription box. So I’m excited to talk about how they started and what that world is like because the whole period industry is blowing up,” Alam explained. “We have a lot of surprises, we’ve got goody bags, there’s going to be Manestream, which is a cool app doing hair and makeup, a great friend of mine Cheyenne Gill will be doing headshots for all the attendees.”

Local notables among the nearly 30 speakers are Shark Tank winners Jess Edelstein & Sarah Ribner- the founders of natural deodorant company Piper Wai, Chris Wink, co-founder of Technically Philly, psychologist Pax Tandon, blogger Sabir Peele, and lifestyle coach Syreeta Martin.

“The ideal attendee is someone looking to re-energize their creative juices, someone who is looking for that connection with other women in the city, other business owners, someone who is looking for some actual strategies for their business,” said Alam. “Never to stop learning is such a big key to being an entrepreneur here. You have to consistently invest in yourself and this conference is one of those investments that I hope people will take because it will not only benefit their career but just that balance they need in their life.”
