Wentz Jerseys Targeted At Area Sporting Goods Stores

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - As the Eagles and Carson Wentz prepare for their 2016 debut, sporting goods stores have shifted their focus to pushing more merchandise related to the rookie quarterback.

Prominently displayed in the front window of a sporting goods store on Chestnut Street in Center City is a rack of Green Eagles jerseys with the name Wentz and number 11 on the back.

Assistant Manager Tom Pirring says they changed their playbook early in the week:

"Soon after the news broke we knew everyone would be excited, so we wanted to get it up front for them quickly as they're coming into the store."

This fan travelled with her husband and three kids from El Paso Texas. First stop was the Eagles Pro Shop at the Linc for a Wentz jersey:

"I believe he will be a good quarterback for our team so I'm showing support."

Other fans are taking a wait-and-see approach:

"I don't want to buy anything until once I see him prove it on the field. I have an Asomugha jersey sitting in my closet so I know the pain. So you don't want to get burned again. No, I don't want to get burned again."

Then there are the superstitious types who refuse to touch it…

"I don't want to jinx him. Usually if I wear their jersey they ain't here long."

Nevertheless, merchants are stocking up, betting that all things Carson Wentz will be a winner.
