Elizabeth Warren Offers High Powered Help For PA Senate Candidate

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The underdog democrat in Pennsylvania's senate race got some major help Friday in Philadelphia.

One of the party's stars came out to stump for her.

It was technically a rally for Katie McGinty on Penn's campus, but it was clear the big draw was Senator Elizabeth Warren, a former Penn professor and hero to many college students for her efforts to get interest rates lowered on student loans.

Legislation, she noted, that lost by two votes and that McGinty's opponent, Republican incumbent Pat Toomey, voted against.

Warren saved her harshest comments for GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump to tie Toomey to him, but Toomey has kept his distance from Trump, including not attending the Republican convention and not making an endorsement.

Toomey is running even or slightly ahead in most polls, though the democratic presidential ticket leads in Pennsylvania.
