Weather: Scorching Temperatures Continue To Threaten Record-Highs

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It may be September, the NFL may have kicked off, school may have begun, but the weather didn't seem to get the memo. After a high of 91 yesterday, today the mercury soared to a scorching 95 degrees, just 1 degree shy of the record of 96 from back in 1939.

Tomorrow and Saturday bring more of the same. Highs will surge to the low to mid 90's with dewpoints around 70 degrees, meaning heat index values could reach around 100 degrees each afternoon.

WEATHER

This dangerous heat has already prompted an early dismissal for Philadelphia and Camden schools, among others, Friday afternoon. A Heat Advisory will be in effect until 6pm and we will be very close to the record of 94 degrees, which was set way back in 1884!

The heat wave will finally break on Saturday night, leading to much nicer weather in time for the Eagles opener on Sunday. But in the meantime, take plenty of heat-related precautions and check on anyone you know that may need some help staying cool!
