Weather: Hermine Could Bring Significant Flooding, Winds To Our Shore

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Your Labor Day weekend plans could be greatly impacted by Tropical Storm Hermine.

There is increased confidence that Hermine will have a major impact at the Jersey Shore and Delaware beaches throughout the Labor Day weekend. Latest computer models show that the center of the Hermine will pass close in proximity to the Jersey coastline as either a post-tropical hurricane, or a strong post-tropical storm.

It is likely that Hermine will stall off-shore for the duration of the holiday weekend before slowly moving out on Tuesday--this means that on-shore flow at the coast would stay in place into early next week, extending the threats for coastal flooding and beach erosion.

Moderate beach erosion and coastal flooding is expected with locally major coastal flooding possible.

WEATHER

Winds could also pose a problem. Tropical storm force winds are possible for late Saturday through Monday morning at the coast with gusts possible to 60 mph. Wind damage could impact homes, trees and electrical power in the region.

Five-plus inches of rain is possible in some locations along the coast.
