Despite Hermine, Sea Isle Prepares To Make The Best Of Labor Day Weekend

SEA ISLE CITY, N.J. (CBS) -- New Labor Day specials are being listed as fast as you can say buy 50, get 50 free.

Mike's Seafood in Sea Isle purchased 42,000 clams in anticipation of the holiday weekend, before realizing that the weather will be nothing to celebrate.

"There's a lot of people depending on this weekend," said Mike's Seafood's Anthony Edwardi.

"I live here, but I feel bad for the people who are spending money coming down and can't enjoy themselves," said one Sea Isle resident.

Rip currents and heavy surf have kept lifeguards on their toes for the last week with heightened swim restrictions.

"You just don't know if it's is going to go over the dock. Next thing you know, your boat is going to be over there," said Steve Gallagher as he moved his boat in anticipation of this weekend's weather.

On the bay is where the potential major tidal flooding can be especially impactful. That's where we found Gallagher was executing his plan. "Get the boat out of the water, go over and help put some furniture away off the porch and get the heck out of here," he said.

How close to the coast Hermine gets will determine the impact on land. Residents and visitors are being asked to prepare for heavy rain, winds and flooding, but Friday's sunshine hasn't made mental preparations any easier.

"It's a beautiful day, looks like the town is pretty busy right now. Everyone is looking for a meal and sunshine and we will see what happens after that," said Edwardi.
