Police: Boy Accidentally Shoots Self, Girl While 'Playing' With Gun

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia Police are investigating after they say a boy and a girl were both shot in Philadelphia on Monday night. Officials say the incident occurred around 8:40 p.m.

Police say that early indications are that the boy accidentally shot himself and the girl while "playing," with the gun.

According to police, the double shooting took place on the 2100 block of Etting Terrace, inside a home, in a second floor bedroom.

Authorities say the 13-year-old boy was shot once in the hand and placed in stable condition at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Officials say he was taken there by private vehicle after fleeing the home.

Police add that a 12-year-old girl was shot once in her right knee. Crews transported her to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and placed in stable condition.

Officials say there were five people in the home, another child and two adults. Police conducted interviews in an effort to locate the weapon.
