City Councilman To Compete In Martial Arts Tournament

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia City Councilman David Oh has had to go to battle for constituents, but Thursday night, he'll be fighting in a very different arena.
It seems the councilman likes to grapple with more than just the issues.
He's a brown belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu, a self-defense system that focuses on grappling and ground-fighting over brute force, and he'll be competing as a heavyweight in the World Master tournament.
The sport, according to the International Federation, supports the notion that a smaller, weaker person can defeat a bigger, stronger challenger; with the right technique.
As one of three republicans in the 17 member council, perhaps that's the attraction.
Oh is also a black belt in karate.
