Move In Day For Seminarians At St. Charles Borremeo

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- This is day one for future priests, as they moved in to St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Wynnewood.

Forty-five new seminarians wearing black ties carried suitcases and boxes into St. Charles Seminary to begin the path toward priesthood.

For 21-year-old Michael Neaves of Newark, the call to service grew gradually.

"I would say it developed over time. Because I'm a convert to the faith, I converted at 14 and after that I started looking into the priesthood just trying to get to know what it was about."

Archdiocese vocations director, Rev. Steve DeLacy says after years in decline, there's an upward trend in men choosing the priesthood.

"I think people are recognizing the need for faith in their lives, and how rewarding a life of faith can be -- especially dedicating their lives in a radical way through faith."

DeLacy says he believes the power of the personality of Pope Francis has also increased the ranks of those seeking a life of spiritual service.
