Presidential Candidate Evan McMullin: Trump Acts Divisive Like Foreign Foes ISIS, Russia

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Conservative independent presidential candidate Evan McMullin called Donald Trump unfit to serve in the Oval Office and accused him of the same behavior our geopolitical enemies engage in to divide the American electorate.

McMullin, in an interview with Rich Zeoli on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, said the GOP nominee is intent on creating internal strife.

"I think both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are woefully unfit to serve in the Presidency for different reasons. With regard to Donald Trump, it's, sort of like, where to start? He is trying very hard to divide this country. He wants to pit one race against another race and one religion against another religion. He attacks African-Americans. He attacks Hispanics, women, people with disabilities, Muslims and others. This is not the kind of person we can have as an American President."

He said Trump is acting in a way that foreign actors would approve of.

"We simply cannot have a President who seeks to divide us. ISIS wants to divide us. Vladimir Putin and Russia wants to divide us. We can't have a President or even a presidential candidate who would do this to us."

When asked directly if he was comparing Trump to a terrorist organization, McMullin clarified to point out Trump's focus on dividing the country.

"Our enemies seek to divide us and Donald Trump is also trying to divide us. That's what I'm saying. Our presidential candidate, our leaders should not try to divide us as Americans. That's a basic thing that I think that a lot of Americans still recognize and that's part of our message."

McMullin, who has previously served with the CIA, as a policy adviser to the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and as chief policy director of the House Republican Committee, believes there are viable avenues to winning come November.

"We see multiple paths to victory. One is that I don't know how long Donald Trump is going to be able to stay in this race. I don't know if he is capable of doing it. I don't know how long the Republican Party is going to stick with him. Every day, it's a new crisis. He puts his foot in his mouth again and again and again. I just don't know how long the Republican Party is going to be able to stick with him. I think he's imploding already. He may completely implode here at any time. I don't know how that's going to go, but I think opportunities may open up for us there. Electorally, another path is to deny both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump a majority in the Electoral College and that would take the election to the House of Representatives, where each state would get a vote and the decision would be made there."
