Ann Coulter: Trump Puts Americans First

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Conservative commentator and avid supporter of Donald Trump, Ann Coulter, spoke with Rich Zeoli on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT about the Republican nominee's plan to deal with undocumented immigrants and his impact on the GOP.

Coulter does not believe Trump will waver on his call to deport everyone in the country illegally by establishing a path for them to gain a type of legal status.

"There better not be. I think it's a big mistake, but let's burn that bridge when we get to it. I'm saying there's going to be no such plan. It's insane. That is why people hate the Republican Party, and the Democrats, but we know to hate them. Our job is not to make lawbreakers comfortable. It should be unpleasant living in the shadows. You broke the law. We really need to take care of Americans first. That includes a lot of immigrants. That includes lots and lots of Hispanics, who are competing with illegal immigrants for these jobs. It includes lots African-Americans. First, we need to take care of our own. That is what Trump's appeal is: Americans first. We take care of our own people first. He's going to bring the jobs back, get the wages up. It's a very appealing plan."

She said Trump has successfully tapped into the issues the American electorate is concerned with.

"The only problems people have with Trump, his problems are stylistic. He's not a politician. He's not smooth. He's not elegant fabulosity like Obama or Mitt Romney, but his issues are popular. That's what he has done. He comes along and sweeps the Republican primary, gets more votes than any Republican in history and how did he do it? By running on popular issues."

Coulter also credits Trump with reorganizing the priorities of the Republican party.

"Trump has really created a party, the party that I always thought the Republicans were. I knew the Democrats didn't care about ordinary Americans. They're the party of the very rich and the welfare recipients. But Trump has the party I always thought we were and he has really exposed the Washington establishment...The pollsters, the consultants, the think tanks, they're all out of work if Trump is elected because all of their fancy consulting and polls and gimmicks and catch phrases, none of that works. Trump just came along and told the truth, looked around the country, saw what the problems were and that turns out to be the best way to message to the American people, by talking about real things and not giving these poll tested phrases."
