Rick Santorum Believes Trump Campaign Has Time To Recover

Philadelphia (CBS) - In an interview with Dom Giordano on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum acknowledged that Donald Trump is struggling to gain traction in the commonwealth but thinks he still has time to turn things around.

Santorum said he is not surprised that the Republican nominee is behind in the polls. However, he believes that if Trump can change his tone, voters will be open to his message.

"It actually doesn't shock me at all. The answer for Donald Trump is, I hate to say it, simply credibility. People in the collar counties have to look at this man and say, okay, I can see him being my President. Right now, the way he's behaving, he's not giving them the confidence that he's someone that they can trust. I think that's a problem that surmountable. I think Donald Trump is, obviously, a very competent and successful businessman, someone, who deals with people effectively in business and he needs to get people comfortable that he can take those skills, that are considerable, and apply them in politics and not get derailed by personal attacks."

He thinks Trump has an advantage over Hillary Clinton in that the Democratic nominee  is already defined in the minds of the public.

"I think Trump is still very much an open slate in a lot of people's books. Hillary has been around so long and has proven who she is. I think Trump is still very much in play as far as how he's going to finally present himself to the American public."
