Police Capture Suspect In Pizza Delivery Kidnapping

by Kristen Johanson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Philadelphia police have captured one suspect and are still looking for another in the kidnapping and attempted murder of a pizza delivery driver in Southwest Philadelphia, and it was all over $60.

Acting on a tip, Philadelphia detectives arrested 17-year-old Donovan Daniels for robbing and shooting 35-year-old pizza delivery driver Gafar Surah.

It happened in early June.

Investigators say Surah was delivering food near 57th and Beaumont, when two people approached him, forced him back into his car, drove him few blocks away and robbed him of $60.

Southwest Lt. John Walker says they were demanding more money.

"They put the gun to the back of the head, start threatening him. He gets up and tries to run, they fire a shot, hits him in the back of the head," Walker described.

Police were called and found Surah lying on the ground. He was taken to the hospital and is still recovering.

Donovan has been charged as an adult-- with attempted murder, kidnapping, and related offenses, and is being held on $2 million bail.

"We are hopeful to make an arrest on the 2nd individual very shortly in this case," said Lt. Walker.
