Kathleen Kane: 'I Don't Feel Like I Need To Testify'

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (CBS) - The big question in Montgomery County this week was whether or not Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane would take the stand in her own defense.

We now know the answer.

Kane told Montgomery County judge Wendy Demchick Alloy "I don't believe it's necessary for me to testify on my own behalf."

Kane was questioned under oath by the judge after her attorneys announced the defense would not be calling any witnesses.

After three and a half days of testimony, prosecutors announced they had no more witnesses around noon.

With the jury out of the room, the defense then made a motion that charges be dismissed, arguing the commonwealth did not meet their burden.

The judge quickly denied the motion, and defense attorney Gerald Shargel announced the defense is resting without any witnesses.

"Very well satisfied with the trial," Shargel said. "Now we're getting to the next stage, I don't want to comment on this because it's a particularly sensitive point and time and we'll wait and see what happens."

Jurors were sent home for the weekend. They'll come back Monday morning to hear closing arguments, then the six men and six women will decide whether Kathleen Kane is guilty or not guilty of leaking grand jury information and lying under oath to cover it up.
