Delaware County Girl Scouts Celebrate National S'mores Day With Sweet Victory

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Today is National S'mores Day -- and some Girl Scouts from the Philadelphia area are celebrating.

A group of Girl Scouts from Delaware County representing The Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania Council competed against three other councils Wednesday in a s'mores making contest. It took place at the Hyatt Regency in Chesapeake Bay. The girls won -- making 1,500 of the melted treats in 41 minutes and 20 seconds.

Seventeen-year-old Erin McCullough of Media explained her group's winning technique.

"We had the girls working in separate sections. So there was a set that were giving out graham crackers and chocolates, as well as a group that were putting marshmallows on sticks," McCullough said. "Followed by, there were two older girls on each side taking the hot marshmallows off and we had two kids running back and forth making sure the s'mores were put into place."

The girls selected for the trip did well in their cookie sales and signed up for another year.

The girls got to take home the 2016 Golden S'mores trophy and the title of "Sensational S'mores Making Scouts."
