DNC Over, But Is There Real Unity For New Jersey Democrats?

ESSINGTON, PA (CBS) --  It's all over but the politicking now for attendees of this week's Democratic National Convention. 142 members of the New Jersey delegation have their marching orders, and most of them appear prepared to work for Hillary Clinton's election in November.

If that doesn't appear to be the traditional "unity" message we hear after most political conventions, just understand this is no traditional political year.

New Jersey's delegation was spared much of the upheaval other states encountered with some disgruntled Bernie Sanders backers. But to be clear, not everyone is on the same page. Congressman Donald Norcross believes that unity will come, in awhile.

"When we refocus on what's really going to happen here, Hillary Clinton verses Donald Trump, there will be no question from anybody that calls themselves Democrats," Norcross told KYW Newsradio. "They cannot allow a Trump presidency."

Traditionally, New Jersey goes Democratic in Presidential elections. But this year, the usual confidence is a little more reserved.

Some may not take the state party's mandate to work on Clinton's behalf. Most won't go that far, as Wendell Steinhauer sees it. He's a Clinton delegate and head of the New Jersey Education Association.

"I think they understand that there's a worse tragedy by staying home and not voting or to make the ultimate disaster decision and vote for Donald Trump," he said.

State party chair John Currie vows to follow up with disgruntled delegates, insisting no one will be taken for granted.
