Building The DNC One Union At A Time
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Constructing the Democratic National Convention at the Wells Fargo Center took thousands of people and months to plan, and several unions from all over the country -- which was no easy task.
"We in essence became a city for four days in July," says Tony Wigglesworth -- Director of the Philadelphia Area Labor Management Committee.
He says beyond the construction of the DNC, was labor unions working together:
"What we did was to discuss and negotiate a global project labor agreement that established relationships not only among the trades, but between the trades and the Democratic National Convention Committee."
With, he says, 40,000 people involved:
"We had people that did not know each other. We had organizations that had no relationships with one another. And the real challenge was, we figured out how to make all of that work."
Wigglesworth says it all went smoothly, and now that it's all over, they are ready for anything.
