Crowds Gather In Rain For Northern Libs DNC Watch Party

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Piazza at Schmidt's Commons transformed into a wet DNC Watch Party Thursday night, people coming together despite the bad weather to witness the convention's grand finale on a giant screen, under the stars.

Joanna Carpenter wasn't originally planning on attending...

"I thought I had a ticket to the convention from my cousin but she couldn't get an extra ticket."

...but she's glad she did:

"I wanted to be around people as passionate as I am. When someone says something that you feel in your heart, they're applauding. We share that feeling. It gives you some kind of comradery."

She and her friend Meryl were among those who braved the rain to watch the end of this historic DNC, as Hillary Clinton's quest for the White House continues.

"I never thought in my lifetime that I would see a woman president," Meryl tells KYW Newsradio.

Joanna on the other hand...

"I always knew it would happen."

Koby Frank was there too to watch history being made:

"I just figured it would be a cool opportunity to see all the stuff going on with the convention here."

He was actually a Charlotte resident in 2012 when the DNC was there.

"Four year ago I got my tickets taken away because they had to move the venue to a smaller stadium cause of the rain, he says, "but this seems like they made a lot more effort here in Philadelphia."
