NY Congressman Blasts Trump For Taking 9/11 Recovery Funds: 'No Denial He Took The Money'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - New York Congressman Richard Crowley attacked Donald Trump for accepting funds designed to help businesses recover from 9/11 even though none of his buildings were damaged in the terrorist attack.

Crowley, who spoke with Dom Giordano on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT, said it is clear that Trump wrongly took the money.

"He accepted $150,000 from a fund that was set up, part of the $20 billion that Hillary Clinton, myself and others from the New York delegation helped secure for the city and for the country and none of his buildings were damaged by the events of 9/11. It's a matter of public record. The [New York] Daily News did the background check on it all. There's no denial that he took the money. That money was meant for small businesses."

The Congressman said the Republican presidential candidate is an opportunist who exploits the goodwill of others.

"Donald Trump wasn't even there for his own industry. The Terrorism Risk Insurance, know as TRIA. We would not be in this building we're in right now if that bill had not passed. Donald Trump's buildings in New York City, the Trump Tower, the Trump Empire could not be occupied if that bill had not passed. He never once called me. I don't what effort he did to pass that legislation by calling delegations or members of Congress. Just another example. He lets others do the work."
