Heat Brings New Challenges During DNC Protest For Philadelphia Police Officers
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The heat is proving to be a formidable foe for Philadelphia police officers patrolling the streets during Democratic National Convention protests.
Samantha Phillips with the office of emergency management said they are definitely feeling the heat.
"Just a lot of exhaustion from the heat," she said. "There were two police officers that were treated at the scene but their okay."
Phillip said they are doing their best to make sure everyone stays safe in the heat.
"110 thousand bottles of water have been distributed and that includes a couple of public drops for demonstrators and then also for first responders."
Commissioner Ross said he wants to give a special thanks to the businesses along South Broad Street who have let his officers make pit stops at their establishments, so they can take a break from the sun and re hydrate.
