Brotherly Love: Volunteers Provide Liquid Relief To Officers During DNC Heat Wave

By Ukee Washington

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's an act of kindness in liquid form.

The 2nd Alarmers Association is a volunteer organization which was founded in 1921. It's funded entirely by police and firefighters.

For this week's Democratic National Convention, their goal is to keep police and firefighters hydrated in the high temperatures.

Volunteers have been working 12 to 14 hour days and have handed out more than 6,000 bottles of water and Gatorade. And they still have a few more days to go.

And thanks to the kindness of people all around the city, the donations of time and supplies keep pouring in.

Whether it's a fire or the DNC, for the volunteers it's all worth it.

Residents who would like to donate water or supplies should email chiefmasi@gmail.com.
