PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Philadelphia officials explained Sunday what city residents and visitors should expect this week when it comes to Democratic National Convention protesters.

Police Commissioner Richard Ross — speaking at the Emergency Operation Center on Spring Garden — says they are ready to handle the masses and don’t expect any problems:

“We have done a significant amount of planning with the protesters, as to everyone’s expectations, there’s and ours.”

Standing with Mayor Kenney and other emergency officials, Ross says they have watched the attacks unfold across the country, and tailored their plan:

“We have taken some additional security measures to assure the safety of both the protesters, the police and the public in general.”

He says even though most protesters will occupy FDR Park, residents and visitors should expect pop-up demonstrations in and around the city:

“Many of these people have indicated that they want to express their first amendment rights, but many will be in Center City, there is no question about that.”

Kenney says they will be prepared with police officers and medics walking along with marchers.
