Kansas Secretary Of State: Trump Will Build The Wall

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -  Kansas Secretary of State, Kris Kobach, a longtime supporter of tighter immigration enforcement, discussed his role shaping the Republican party platform that will be adopted this week at the convention in Cleveland and says he's confident Donald Trump will build the border wall he's promised.

Kobach told Chris Stigall on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT he is very satisfied with the policies the GOP is laying out.

"I had a major role in influencing our immigration platform. It says in no uncertain terms we're going to build a real wall. It's not going to be a fake wall made of sensors and drones. It's going to be the real deal. It's going to go the entire southern border, not just 700 miles like Congress promised to us in 2006 and then the Executive Branch failed to deliver. We're against amnesty. We want tighter screening at the borders of people coming in from high risk countries. We want to crush ISIS. Very specific things."

He claims the primary objective of their immigration policy is to help the American workforce.

"We want to put the interests of the American worker first. There will never be, in the Republican platform, I hope again, any hint that a foreign national who wants the American's job is, somehow, going to get it first. That's a real difference. The Republican platform puts Americans first. We want law order and we want a wall."

Kobach puts his faith in Donald Trump to deliver all the way on his pledge to complete the border wall.

"I feel very confident this time that it happens. I've been laboring in the fields of trying to restore the rule of law on immigration for a long time...[Trump] has made it the flagship, the centerpiece, of his campaign. Build the wall! That's the biggest applause line at every single event he's been at since the day he started his campaign. I believe that Mr Trump is going to make good on that promise."
