After Deadly Police Shootings, PPD Commissioner Focusing On Officer Safety

By Tim Jimenez

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- With three officers killed in Baton Rouge not long after the attack in Dallas, Philadelphia's Police Commissioner is focusing on the safety of the officers the city.

Commissioner Richard Ross says he's thinking about the safety of all officers, especially the thousands that he leads in Philadelphia.

And, just like after Dallas, he says officers have to be with a partner while out on patrol. And because of that, Ross says they've had to make some moves.

"It's a challenge for us because of our manpower so we've had to pull some of our foot beats in to staff some of those police cars with veterans and so it changes some of the things that you do and how you do it."

Ross also says acts of violence are a threat to those in blue and the entire community.

He says if a dangerous person fires their weapon, everyone is at risk.

And when asked about the DNC next week, Ross says they're working with the feds and state law enforcement, adjusting where they have to, to ensure everyone's safety.
