Social Media Celebrates #WorldEmojiDay
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Today is World Emoji Day! Time to celebrate with the red balloon, confetti and excited face emojis... and a song.
The holiday is celebrated on July 17 because that date is depicted on the calendar emoji on most smartphones.
This year the event got its very own anthem by singer and Youtuber, Jonathan Mann.
"Doesn't matter who you are cuz everybody uses emojis."
Twitter also got in the spirit by ranking emojis that people commonly tweet to determine the most popular one for each month.
The Christmas tree and emoji hearts were the most common in December and February, which makes sense given that Christmas and Valentine's Day fall in those months.
But the other ones may surprise you.
