PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The Philadelphia Boys Choir and Chorale will travel to Cuba in August.

The choir has traveled to Cuba twice before…once in 1999 and again in 2003. Musical Director Jeffrey Smith says with relations improving between the United States and Cuba, it seemed like the perfect time for a return trip.

“Often times when we travel, besides the musical aspect, there is a political aspect of us sharing our culture with the people there,” Smith said. “And kind of letting them know that Americans are just like anybody else and no matter what the political differences may be between the countries, the people are the same.”

The kids will perform throughout the country, including the American Embassy.

The 95 members and staff will be in Cuba from August 10 through August 21.
