Farmer Killed In Industrial Accident In Delaware Field

LAUREL, Del. (CBS) -- Authorities say a farmer was killed while fixing a piece of equipment in a field in Delaware.

It happened around 2:30 p.m. Friday in a field near the 11000 block of Whitesville Road in Laurel, Sussex County.

Police say a 61-year-old man from Parsonsburg, Maryland was operating a tractor when he encountered an error with an attached piece of equipment used for baling. Authorities say the man's 27-year-old son was attempting to fix the problem when he heard a scream and turned to see his father trapped inside the machine.

The man suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe the man possibly saw a broken band inside the machine and was attempting to remove it when his son activated the machine.

Authorities say there are no signs of foul play.

Police say the identity of the victim will not be released as is practice when investigating these types of industrial incidents.
